What to Expect During Professional Spa Installation in Saratoga Springs & Surrounding Areas

Adding a spa or hot tub to your backyard is one of those decisions that pays off almost immediately. Whether you live in Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, Latham, or somewhere nearby in the greater Albany area, a well-installed spa can turn an ordinary evening into something a lot more relaxing.

At A Frame Imperial Pools, we’ve been helping local homeowners do exactly that for more than 50 years. We’re also the only Saratoga Spa Company factory-owned store in the country, which means our technicians are factory-trained and certified on the products we sell.

If you’re thinking about spa installation, it helps to know what the process actually looks like. There’s no big mystery, but there are a few steps that make the difference between a smooth install and one that causes headaches later. Here’s a clear walkthrough of what you can expect when you work with our team.

Preparing Your Property Before Installation Day

A little preparation goes a long way. Before our crew arrives, we’ll talk through the details with you so everyone is on the same page.

The first thing we look at is the location. Your spa needs a solid, level surface. That could be a concrete pad, a reinforced deck, or a properly prepared gravel base, depending on the model and your yard. Soft or uneven ground can cause problems down the road, so we make sure the base can support the weight of a filled spa (which is heavier than most people realize).

Access is another practical detail. We need a clear path from the street or driveway to the final spot. Narrow gates, tight corners, or low-hanging branches can slow things down, so we plan for that ahead of time. Electrical service is critical too. Most modern spas require a dedicated 220-volt circuit. If your home doesn’t already have one, a licensed electrician will need to handle that work before or during the install. We can coordinate with electricians we’ve worked with for years, or you’re welcome to use your own.

If you’re installing a built-in hot tub rather than a portable model, there may be additional site work involved—excavation, framing, or plumbing connections. We’ll discuss those requirements early so there are no surprises. Local permits are sometimes needed for electrical work or permanent installations, and we can point you in the right direction if your town requires them.

What Happens on Installation Day

Most spa installations take one to three days, depending on the model and how much site preparation is involved. Portable spas are usually faster. Built-in units take a bit longer because of the extra construction steps.

Here’s the typical flow:

Our team arrives with the spa and all necessary equipment. We carefully unload and position the unit on the prepared base. For larger models, this sometimes involves specialized equipment, especially if the access path is tight. Once the spa is in place, we level it precisely. Even a small tilt can affect water circulation and the life of the equipment.

Next comes the electrical connection. Our factory-trained technicians make sure everything is wired correctly and safely. We also check the plumbing (if applicable), fill the spa with water, and start the system for the first time. This is when we test the jets, lights, heater, and controls to confirm everything is working the way it should.

Before we leave, we walk you through the basic operation. You’ll learn how to adjust the temperature, run the jets, clean the filter, and balance the water chemistry. We also leave you with the owner’s manual and any starter chemicals or supplies you’ll need for the first few weeks.

After the Installation: Getting the Most from Your New Spa

The first few days after installation are mostly about settling in. You’ll want to check the water chemistry regularly—pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels—until the water stabilizes. Most people find this becomes routine pretty quickly.

We recommend draining and refilling the spa about every three months, though that can vary based on how often you use it. Filters should be cleaned every few weeks and replaced as needed. A good-quality spa cover is one of the best investments you can make; it keeps heat in, debris out, and energy costs down.

If anything feels off—unusual noises, error codes on the control panel, or water that won’t stay clear—just give us a call. Because we’re the factory-owned store for Saratoga Spa Company products, we have direct access to parts and technical support that many other dealers don’t. That matters when you need service quickly.

Why Local Experience Makes a Difference

Saratoga Springs and the surrounding towns have their own climate quirks—cold winters, humid summers, and the occasional heavy snow. A spa that isn’t installed with those conditions in mind can end up costing more in energy or repairs over time. Our technicians have installed hundreds of units in this area, so they know how to position equipment for good drainage, protect electrical components, and choose models that perform well in our winters.

We’ve also seen just about every yard configuration imaginable. Whether you have a small patio in Latham, a larger backyard in Clifton Park, or a more complex setup near Saratoga Springs, we can usually find a practical solution.

Ready to Get Started?

If you’re considering spa installation in Saratoga Springs or any of the nearby communities, the easiest next step is to stop by our showroom in Latham. We have a newly remodeled spa and hot tub display area where you can see several models in person—Luxury Spas, Adirondack Spas, Special Edition, Geyser, and Champion lines. You can sit in them, feel the jets, and talk through options without any pressure.

You can also call us at 518-785-4171. We’re happy to answer questions, schedule a site visit, or help you figure out whether a portable or built-in spa makes more sense for your property.

A good spa installation should feel straightforward, not stressful. That’s how we approach every project—clear communication, careful work, and support that continues long after the crew leaves. When you’re ready, we’re here to help make it happen.
